Accessing a laptop through a Windows Mobile device
Hi guys. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what software would allow me to use my iPAQ as a screen for my laptop. My goal is to have the laptop under a seat in the car and use the iPAQ as the screen to control the laptop. Can anyone help?

The Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine Web site has a software encyclopedia database: smartphonemag.com/_enc/encyclopedia.asp. There is a category for this: click on Software and then on Remote Host Control under the Utilities category.

I discuss LogMeIn Pro and several other solutions in my post titled "Access your desktop PC from your Pocket PC." It's available on the Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine blogs (smartphonemag.com/blogs). The date of the post is 1/03/07, but I've updated it a number of times since then.

Getting RealPlayer on smartphones
Does RealPlayer work on smartphones? I have big collection of media in RealMedia (rm) format that I like to listen to on my Moto Q smartphone, but I cannot find the software. Is anyone aware of any RealPlayer alternative for smartphones?

It does—with some hacking. For more on this, see the how-to titled "Install RealPlayer onto SmartPhone" on the MoDaCo.com blogs (full link in the forum post at the end of this tip). Also note that MPlayer (mplayerhq.hu) is a smartphone-compatible program that plays RM media. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of CPU power.

Playing smartphone MP4 videos on PCs
I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to play the videos I take on my XV6800 on my PC? They are MP4 videos, but neither Windows Media Player nor QuickTime will open them. Nothing will so far. It seems ridiculous to assume, but is it possible that my phone, a Windows Mobile phone, will not create movies in a format my Windows computer can play? Am I missing something?

Try VideoLAN VLC (videolan.org)—it has codecs for almost everything and won't mess up your desktop, as it doesn't install system-level codecs.

Tweaking Call History
I used to have a Windows Mobile 2003 OS device and was able to set the option of keeping the Call History unlimited. But there is no such option on my Windows Mobile 6 HTC TyTN II, and the Call History is only kept for one month—anything before that is deleted. Can anybody help with this issue? Thanks.
