BenQ-Siemens P50 Pocket PC

BenQ-Siemens P50 finally available in Europe

In partnership with Siemens, BenQ has finally introduced its much-delayed Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition device in Europe. The P50 is a relatively small device, with a 2.8 inch diagonal QVGA color touch screen and an integrated quad-band GPS/GPRS phone. It also comes with integrated Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, an integrated digital camera, and a QWERTY thumb keyboard. No word on a possible introduction in the U.S. market. HTC's Windows Mobile devices to support Microsoft's Direct Push e-mail

HTC, the leading designer and manufacturer of Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones has announced that its new devices will support Microsoft's "Direct Push e-mail technology. The company predicts that the integration of push e-mail capability on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 platform will lead to significant growth of the market for wireless e-mail and drive further demand for Smartphone and PDA devices. In addition, HTC will team up with British Telecom and Virgin Mobile to offer broadcast TV and radio service to mobile phones. The service will be available later this year in Europe, on a limited basis. No word on when it will become available in the U.S.

HP offers iPAQ/GPS combo in Europe

According to industry sources, HP will bundle its iPAQ rx1950 Pocket PC with ViaMichelin's navigation software and a GPS-enabled car cradle for the European market. To use the GPS capability, you slip the rx1950, is a traditional Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, into the dash-mounted cradle. No word on whether existing rx1950 owners can buy the cradle and software separately. HP has not announced plans to release this combo in the U.S.

Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile

Microsoft has announced the upcoming availability of Office Communicator Mobile for Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005. Communicator Mobile is based on the user interface of the Office Communicator 2005 desktop client, which is similar to MSN Messenger but runs within a corporate environment and offers more features and enhanced security. Communicator Mobile is expected to be available for download for Live Communication Server customers within 60 days.

T-Mobile to offer Microsoft direct push e-mail services on Windows Mobile-based devices in the Netherlands

Microsoft, T-Mobile Netherlands, and IS Interned Services today announced the upcoming availability of new professional e-mail packages for small and medium-sized businesses based on the Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration version 3.5. As part of this new offering, T-Mobile will upgrade to the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for Windows Mobile 5.0-based devices, making it possible to offer hosted e-mail services across its full range of Windows Mobile-based T-Mobile MDA Smartphones.
