MAXIMIZE BATTERY LIFE
Here's a list of things you can do to maximize your battery life:
- If your device has backlighting you can turn it off when you don't need it. Set the "Turn off backlight" timer as low as you can tolerate. (Start > Settings > System > Backlight)
- Lower the volume of sounds. Turn off sounds you do not need such as key
clicks and screen taps. When practical, use shorter sounds for notifications of events (Start > Settings > Sounds & Reminders > Sounds)
- Turn screen brightness to the minimum readable level. The brighter the
screen, the more power required. (Check your Pocket PC's user manual.)
- Remove any PC Card or Compact card that is not in use. Insert them only
when needed.
- Lower the setting for the amount of time before your Pocket PC or
Handheld PC goes to sleep. (Start > System > Power)
- Minimize your use of IrDA (infrared) or serial communications. Both of
these require more power.

CHANGE THE DEFAULT SOUND FOR ALL REMINDERS
The reminder sound is not global to the Windows CE operating system.
That means that you have to change it in both Calendar and Tasks. To do
this while in either application:
- Select Tools > Options and then tap on the Bell button.
- Tap on Reminder Options
- Select the sound that you want in the drop down list.
The default sound for either is Alarm1. You might want to make the
default sound for appointments different from tasks so that if you hear
the alarm you will quickly know whether it is for an appointment or a
task.

POCKET PC RUNS MANY PALM-SIZE PC APPLICATIONS
If you're looking for applications for your Pocket PC, be sure to check
out applications written for the previous version of the device, the
Palm-size PC. Most of these will run on the Pocket PC. Microsoft designed the Pocket PC to be able to emulate the Palm-size PC interface when running Palm-size PC applications, although the emulation is perfect and you will find some Palm-size PC applications that will not run on the Pocket PC. For more on this, check out Chris De Herrera's article on the subject, found on the PocketPC.Com Web site (www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/columns/emulator.asp).
