How to use your Pocket PC to train in Kung Fu
Overview:
Create videos that demonstrate the correct techniques used in various Kung Fu moves, and then format them so that they can be viewed on a Pocket PC whenever and wherever you are.
With the release of new mobile devices like the Pocket PC and Smartphone, a new form of Kung Fu training has emerged. While learning traditional hand and weapon forms during public or private sessions is required, it is often difficult to practice these forms on your own. With the assistance of my teacher, I have created digital videos that demonstrate specific beginner and intermediate Kung Fu movements, and transferred them to my Motorola Q Smartphone for viewing at home or wherever I can practice. We are developing clear digital videos of each hand and weapon form and making them available on the Internet and for viewing on Windows Mobile devices. Of course, this technique of creating training videos can be applied to any field.
How to do it:
The process involves four major steps: The creation of the video using a camcorder; transferring the captured video to your PC for editing; translating the video into a format that can be used by Windows Media Player Mobile on your Smartphone (screen size and WMV file format); copying the video to your Smartphone.
Step 1. Creating a video of the move or activity: The first step involves the creation of the video using a digital camcorder. A variety of these devices are available and I'll leave it to you to find one. I currently use a JVC digital camcorder with a MiniDV or DVC tape and follow these steps:
- 1et up the camcorder on a tripod so that it stays still for the video capture.
- Position the camera so that it captures the entire practice area.
- Record the session from start to finish or until the tape runs out.
