Great New Mobile Portals
There’s a world of content out there on the Internet, as you well know, and it doesn’t always come conveniently packaged for the small screen of your device. Mobile portals have been a real boon, and this week I want to tell you about some new ones that deserve a look.
KeyToss mobile, one of the latest to appear on the scene, is extremely customizable. According to the sites develop, Sam Kim, features include the ability to search using dozens of different search tools (e.g., Google, Amazon, IMDb, UPS Package Tracking, Acronym Finder, Dictionary.com, Wikipedia) from one search bar; local searches on Google Local, Yelp, and yellowpages.com based on your stored location; RSS and Atom newsfeeds with mobile-optimized links; localized links (so you don’t have to enter your location when you click on Fandango, for example); the ability to organize modules on multiple pages; and file transfers between PC and phone.
You can also get sports scores for your favorite (US-based) teams, weather, stock quotes, etc. Sam says that many more features are coming. A great review at WapReview gives a lot more detail about KeyToss’s features and compares it to iGoogle’s mobile version.

Mippin isn’t new, but introduced a faster and more intuitive interface in July coinciding with the introduction of the iPhone 3G. Mippin describes itself as a free mobile media service that makes discovering, consuming, and sharing content on mobile phones easy.
They try to do two different things well: help beginners find and discover content that they may not have known existed and help advanced users organize their favorite feeds in one place. To try it, point your mobile browser at mippin.com.
Protopage, a personalized portal to the Internet for the desktop that offers a lot of content and widgets, recently launched a mobile version. Point your mobile browser at protopage.com/mobile.
