Backlight not working in my old iPAQ

Q: The back/sidelight is not working in my old iPAQ 38xx. I've even tried a hard reset. What should I do?
The back- (to be more precise, side-)light in older, reflective, color iPAQ models (h36xx/h37xx/h38xx) is known to occassionally burn out - a friend of mine has also encountered this problem with this 3630. Not much can be done except for swapping the sidelight for a new one. It may be pretty expensive, though - I'd go for a new device instead.

It is also very possible that the inverter board, a small, long board inside which is attached with double-sided tape and ribbon connector, is burnt out. This is a cheap part, available on eBay, and quite easy to replace.
