1. Opera Mobile 9.5 announced!

2. SPB Mobile Shell 2.0 announced!
A lot of you may have been eagerly waiting for this upgrade. See for example THIS for more info.
3. The famous Sprite Software is proud to present Sprite Archie to backup / search / evaluate your call logs/ SMS messages. While there’re some tools (most notably, the free (!) PIM Backup and SKTools) that are able to backup your stuff (see the tutorial I’ve written on this HERE), Sprite Archie seems to take this a bit further.

4. Another Jbed MIDlet Manager version has been released: JRebeiro_EsmertecJbed_20071119.3.1.

Being a huge Opera Mobile fan I cannot wait until 9.5 comes out. The demo video shows the Opera Zoom option which looks very handy. I wonder if it will have the ability to manually choose a zoom size as well? Anyway, the new interface looks great and the speed seems even better. I look forward to this one.
BTW - Has there been any announcement about whether existing users (8.65) will get a special price for upgrades?

No official announcements on the upgrade policy. They have only stated 8.xx upgrades would be free for 8.60/8.65 customers (as was the case with the 8.60 -> 8.65 upgrade.)
It really doesn't matter either way. You can bet I will be loading it whether I have to pay or not. I consider Opera one of the best ways to spend money on a Smartphone or PPC.
Agreed, Opera Mobile is definitely worth paying for. Even if one doesn't use it much but, say, prefers using Opera Mini instead - or, for that matter, use Opera on the desktop (as I do - it has the best (albeit Mozilla / Firefox is gradually getting better - let's not talk about IE in this respect ;) ) zoom engine for really high-res ((W)UXGA) notebook screens and is, therefore, indispensable for me when browsing the Net on my 15" UXGA Thinkpad a31p).
It's like "let's purchase CorePlayer, even if you will still use TCPMP in many cases (for example, YouTube, AC3 or HE-AACv2 playback, which, as of now, CorePlayer is still not capable of) just to express a big THANKS for the free TCPMP".
My purchasing CorePlayer in three different versions (one for the desktop, one for Symbian and the third for Pocket PC's) has certainly been done to also express my gratitude for Picard's free (!), unpaid work during all these years.
The situation with Opera Mobile / Mini and their free desktop browser is exactly the same. The Opera folks definitely deserve purchasing their products just to support their other, free projects.
I just bought the Opera browser for my Archos 605 PMP tonight and I have to say it is really nice. It is as crystal clear as I have ever seen and the functionality is exceptional. Chalk up another win to Opera.

i tried a bunch of 3D games i have on the new JBed, and besides having no sound all of them worked fine. The games i tried so far are: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Mobile, Asphalt GT 3 3D, K.O. Fighters 3D Version, NFS Carbon 3D, NFS Pro Street 3D and Tomb Raider Legend 3D. Resident Evil the Missons 3D still wont work unfortunately... its the only reason for me to keep my old trusty SE K750i... :-)

Thanks Damien for the tests; too bad there's no sound :( I'll, then, stick with version 2.2 for games having a decent soundtrack / music and only use the new version for M3G games.
Maybe its me who missed something.. i didnt have sound on the previous version either... :-)
Outland 3D and Rocky 3D work as well by the way... So it looks pretty useful for 3D games so far since only one of all the tested games didnt work.
This has been confusing me for a while. You sometimes mention jbed 2.2 and in your bible, mention 070802.2.2. The actual version of that jbed is 070802.2.1. The previous version, 070524.2.1 is also 2.1, but dated a few months earlier. Just FYI in case people start looking for unicorns.
Damien, did you test the games with the Cloudyfa 2.1 version? Other versions not necessarily support sound; Cloudyfa's does.
badbob001, I stand corrected: it's indeed the 070802.2.1 version that I referred to as 2.2. Thanks!
It looks like a bunch of hacked versions of jbed have been appearing that seems to offer this right from installation:
- increased heap size
- 3d support
- local filesystem access for midlets
- install anywhere
- no permission prompts
There is even a hacked version of the latest 3.1 version. Sadly, jbed still has that bottom cut-off part of the display for non full-screen apps (eg: gmail app).
