connection woes iPAQ 5455

Here is the story .. just got a used 5455 and am in the process of setting it up. (several problems .. but one at a time!)
Internet connection can be made both with the built in and using an SD card. I get on line .. just that it will not STAY on line (my own network .. two wireless desktops are running on same. WHY is this thing shutting down? It will go back to the opening page on the PDA in just a few seconds. (apparently it is not detecting that it is on line, from what I can ascertain.)
running 2003 with the latest updates and flashes.

OK, I did the "basic setup" from the sticky above and now I can't even get into my router. This is NUTS!

And after a real hassle, I DO have internet access again, but only for a few seconds and then it dumps.
Anybody have a CLUE?

I have NO CLUE what I did, but I now have it WORKING. Hmmmmmmm Best to leave well enough alone. (thanks for the look-ins anyway!)
(now if I can just get that swapping battery issue fixed!)

now it died again and I mean DIED .. no connection at all. Wonderful Windork programming!
I can get a Linux on line with a wireless easier than this thing!

Well, got it back up again, but it will NOT stay on line. No matter what the site.
Equipment:
D-Link DI-624 router with the latest flash
D-Link DWL-7100AP access point
iPaq 5455 with latest flash/upgrades
neither the on board nor the
Spectec WLAN-11 b/g SDIO card will keep the connection.

I am beginning to suspect that it is Windows 2003SE that is at fault.
And since there is no built in SFC for same,
Linux anyone? Linux Familiar beginning to look better and better.
