control Windows Mobile device with your desktop PC

In the  "At A Glance" column (page 78 of the hard copy) in the Aug/Sept 2008 issue of SMARTPHONE & POCKET PC Magazine, it mentions that "Remote Desktop Mobile" is built-in software for WM6 and that it used to be called "Terminal Services".

Where is this on the AT&T Tilt or can it be downloaded?

I want to remotely access my PC from my phone.

More importantly, I also want to access the phone from my PC so I can make a lot of typed in entries on my desktop keyboard.

Thanks,

Steph

Terminnal services is indeed included by default in Windows Mobile Professional edition. However, some Mobile Operators choose to remove some features. Besides Remote Desktop, they also remove MSN Messenger.

I'm going to recommend two nice applications:

LogMeIn - www.logmein.com: Lets you access your PC anywhere over the internet.

Soti Pocket Controller - http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=PCPro - Lets you control your device from the desktop.

Hello, Linley,

I looked at both of them and they both seem to be what I'm looking for.

Thank you for the advice!

Linley, I read all the information and was impressed, however, I can't afford it at this time.

They also have a free edition - logme in Free. It has the feature I'm looking for:

File Transfer  Move files quickly between PCs - do they mean between a PC and a mobile device, also?

Is there a program that just lets you access and transfer files remotely between your PC and your phone? I don't want to load up my phone with features I won't be using.

Thank you,

Steph

This program is also very impressive and it's affordable but it also comes with a lot of features I don't need.

I just want to use my PC keyboard and mouse with my phone from time to time, as opposed to creating documents on my PC and then transferring them via WMDC.

Am I going about all this the wrong way?

Thank you,

Steph

He touches on numerous RDP type apps. Let us know if this helps.

Keep your eyes out for Microsoft Mesh (http://mesh.com).  It's not completly implemented yet, but when completed you should be able to use it to acces files on your other machines from your Windows Mobile device.

It's a no go. I was going to post the three pages of discoveries I made, but I'd rather not add to someone else's confusion. Thank you very much for the link.

I'm sorry I forgot to reply to this but I was embroiled in 4 hours of trying to figure out the alternatives which led me from one site to another and another until I realized, I just can't handle that.

I read up on Mesh and coincidentally I found some great info on it in the latest Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine newsletter.

I signed up and am on the waiting list since they already have enough people in the program.

Mesh definitely looks like an easy solution. One thing, though, how much is it going to cost?

Didn't it work with you? If it didn't, have you followed the link to the "main" Remote Control Bible? it contains a lot of alternative apps you can choose from, many free.

My Mobiler maybe what you are looking for. It's a freeware that you can download from http://www.mtux.com/

I agree that My Mobiler is a great program for that. I LOVE the drag and drop functionality.

Hi, Werner,

I went to your main bible, and it's terrific, but I spent hours and hours getting nowhere. I'm not adept enough at all this when it comes to connection types. I guess that's the best way to describe this.

It's my fault since I have to redo my 2500 page website, page by page, so I only get to concentrate on my darling phone in between the rest of it all.

I also "applied" for Live Mesh and was originally emailed that it was full, and then I received an "invitation" however, they haven't got the mobile devices in the mesh yet.

I'm going to take a look at your bible again soon.

Thank you!

Steph

BTW, as far as free controllers are concerned, I strongly reocmmend EveryWAN Remote Support Personal Edition

Review: http://www.smartphonemag.com/cms/blog/9/review-comparison-great-free-pda-controller-software-everywan-remote-support-personal-edition

Hello, Werner,

I read your entire review on EveryWAN and it is feature packed, however, I don't need most of those features.

Since I'm very happy with something for once (MyMobiler), you may want to leave well enough alone! :)

I don't draw, I don't use voice for anything because I'm hearing impaired and only have a data plan, I would never edit the registry without first exporting / backing it up, so I'd need a separate registry editor (which I have, BTW) and I don't need the extra features.

I use WMDC whenever I want to transfer files.

All I really wanted was a big screen to do copying/pasting/editing of text, etc, which is what My Mobiler is great for, among other things I haven't experimented with.

All of that said, it's probably terrific for everyone else! :)
