Active Sync. Problems WM6.1, Possible Compaction Thread issue

Device, Data Collector, WM6.1 O/S  5.2 19581 (Bld 1.1.1) 128 RAM, 512 Flash, 512 microSD

Computers, Win XP SP3, Win2000Pro

This is the same using both Computers (and a WinXP laptop)

The device will get stuck syncing, if I use outlook, contacts ect. This is an intermittent problem. The device(i look to make sure its not syncing) I disconnect and head out to the field, several times now, The device is stuck syncing. it shows syncing and A/S reports its connected. I have tried ending with Task Manager (does not show A/S being used 0% CPU) SoftBoot or go back to a PC and connect  to let it sync. Run out of ideas to try.

I loaded about 700 MB of files,( jobs, localization's) I later had about 5 or 6 Min's, where the screen, was unresponsive, could not get it to switch into another screen, same program, very much like the WM5 days. I let it "run" and returned to normal, loaded a smaller batch of files, had same issue, 1-2 Min's length

Typically, if a problem shows up after loading files, I recommend that the user start taking the files out in reverse order. However, this usually relates to loaded applications. Have any new applications been loaded lately? When you say that AS still shows that the device is connected, are you saying that the desktop PC still shows AS is connected to the device? It may be an issue with your desktop AS that is creating the issue. If that is the case, it would be advised to uninstall AS and then reload with the newest version. A pain in the posterior I know, but thus is the world of technology at times.

Dale,

Thanks, I have installed A/S on a 'Clean" Win XP machine, to no avail. The icon on the top task bar, shows A/S connected (after disconnecting from Desktop) the unit will then, not self suspend (set for 5 mins) and eventually  try to sync,(set for 2hrs) of course, it "locks up" after the icon starts going around. Soft Boot or go back and reconnect to P.C. (does not matter which P.C) let it sync and manually sync it a couple times. Intermintent problem, but, regular enough to be a real pain. I was wondering about (Menn...) "Fake server hack"from theWM5 days.

The unit will just plain "run" slow occaionally, usually only lasts a couple mins. I have only one Survey Program in it. The initial "load up" of Job files, (had several jobs in it already) gave it fits. This is why I think, compaction issues.Everything is loaded to main memory.

Not sure, but you might want to disable "Advanced network functionality" in Start > Settings > Connection > USB to PC and connect again.
