Being a mobile professional is tough.

Good thing we’re tougher.

Let’s face it. No mobile professional wants to deal with numerous communication devices — each one more fragile than the next. That’s why Motorola designed the durable, all-in-one MC35 Enterprise Digital Assistant. Now you can combine the voice and data capabilities your business needs with the backend connectivity you want — all in a small, lightweight form factor that allows your people to make calls, send and receive email, connect to the Web, read bar codes and even get directions via GPS. Best of all, the MC35 is durable enough to handle all-day, everyday use in a variety of settings. It’s just another way Motorola puts Seamless Mobility in the palm of your hand. HELLOMOTO™.

Tip#363: Use your Phone Edition on the plane with Flight Mode

Even when you turn your Pocket PC Phone Edition off, the phone function will continue to stay on. This is important to remember when boarding planes, which don’t allow active wireless communications during flight. In order to use the non-phone functions of your Pocket PC on planes, you need to set your device to Flight Mode. To do this, follow these steps:

1)      Tap on the connection icon in the top menu bar. (It’s usually located to the left of the volume control and looks like a small “x” with arrows above it pointing left and right.) This causes a status bubble to pop up, with a link labeled “Turn on flight mode” (or “Turn Phone off” on older devices).

2)      Tap on the link to disable the wireless functions.

3)      To turn it back on, tap on the connection icon and then the blue link again.

Note that in some Phone Edition devices, the status bubble may have a link labeled “Wireless Manager.” Tap on that link to go to a screen where you can turn the phone on and off. Note also that some devices have shortcuts that can turn the phone on and off. Check your device user manual for these. One final note: Some flight attendants will not allow you to use the device even with Flight Mode turned on.

"Microsoft recently announced the latest update to its mobile OS and application suite-Windows Mobile 6 (WM6). Manufacturers now have this version of the software, and we should start seeing mobile devices based on it in retail channels in the coming months. Jim Karpen's Hot Web Site of the Week: Creating a Personal Mobile Portal

I like the sound of a new service that I recently learned about — currently available as a free beta. It lets you create a customized personal mobile portal. Whatever’s important to you — specific web sites such as MySpace, documents on your desktop computer, your Outlook data — can all be made into a mobile portal that you can access via your mobile device wherever you are.

The service is DoMo HomePage, which consists of 1) a software application for your PC that you download and that provides you with a tool set to create your portal, and 2) a server that DoMo HomePage syncs your mobile portal to so that it’s available for access via your mobile device.

And because DoMo uses a plugin system, you aren't limited in the types or sources of content you can include in your portal.
