Sponsored Item: Motorola

Being a mobile professional is tough.

Good thing we’re tougher.

Let’s face it. No mobile professional wants to deal with numerous communication devices — each one more fragile than the next. That’s why Motorola designed the durable, all-in-one MC35 Enterprise Digital Assistant. Now you can combine the voice and data capabilities your business needs with the backend connectivity you want — all in a small, lightweight form factor that allows your people to make calls, send and receive email, connect to the Web, read bar codes and even get directions via GPS. Best of all, the MC35 is durable enough to handle all-day, everyday use in a variety of settings. It’s just another way Motorola puts Seamless Mobility in the palm of your hand. HELLOMOTO™.

News: Fujitsu-Siemens Leaving the Windows Mobile Market

In an post on pocketpcthoughts.com, author Nurhisham Hussein discusses the announcement that Fujitsu-Siemens will be leaving the handheld market at the end of 2007. The post said in part:

"When this turned up on my RSS feed, it caught me completely by surprise. Given the relative success of the T830, which overcame such barriers as limited marketing and zero carrier support, I'd expected it to be just the first in a line of Windows Mobile phones."

With another vendor leaving standalone PDAs, this market continues to shrink.

Tip: Encrypt Your Storage Card In WM 6

Storage card encryption lets you protect files saved to a storage card on your device. Once encrypted, the card can only be accessed from the encrypting device or via ActiveSync Explorer when the encrypting device is connected to a desktop PC.
  1. From the Start menu on any device, go to Settings >Encryption.
  2. Check the box labeled “Encrypt files placed on storage cards.”
TIP: This feature protects data on cards that have been removed from the card slot. If the card is still in the slot and someone gets a hold of your device, they can access the data. To protect against this, password protect the device (see “How to password protect your Windows Mobile device” in the Learning section).

Review: Does Wireless Matter?

"Mobile. Wireless. What's the difference? While many of you will argue that distinguishing between wireless and mobility is playing with semantics, I am here to say that the difference is not only profound, but the separation of these two concepts is fundamental to ultimate success in this industry.

Wireless is a technology. Mobility is a state of mind. Mobility leverages the independent computing power of the handheld device while wireless enables a communications platform. Wireless is an extremely valuable technology, but without mobility, it can never achieve its full potential."

Article: Ending Our Love Affair with Paper

"Security services companies have scrambled to make greater use of information technology in the post-9/11 world, but paper-based, manual systems for data collection have remained a mainstay of the business"-"until now. Like other businesses, ours is learning that you can do a lot more with mobile handheld computers and Smartphones than just send and receive e-mail and organize your life."

Jim Karpen's Hot Web Site of the Week: SkweezeIt Freeware

For Smartphone and Pocket PC

While there are many options for the mobile web, one problem remains: when you click on a link in an e-mail message or in your RSS reader, it often will open up a page designed for a desktop computer. SkweezeIt freeware helps avoid this. When you click on a link it gives you the option of loading the page via Skweezer, which reformats the page for the small screen.
