News: Mobile Games Not Bringing in the Bucks

In an article on theregister.co.uk, author Bill Ray discusses the decrease in revenue of mobile games. He said in part:

"Revenue from mobile games slipped nine per cent during the second quarter to 30 June 2007, compared to an 11 per cent rise during the first - bad news for a market which constantly portrays itself as under-exploited."

Advancements in mobile games will have to keep up with mobile phones if they are to grow in popularity.

Tip: WM 6 smartphones: Use left/right navigation button in Call History

In Windows Mobile 6 smartphones, you can use the left and right navigation button when in Call History to cycle through the different phone numbers of a contact. For the contact to appear in Call History, you must have called them or they must have called you. To open Call History, press the green Call button and highlight the contact you want to call (below the number field). As you cycle through different numbers using left and right on the D-pad, note that they are indicated by a letter on the far right of the screen (“w” for work number, “m” for mobile number, etc.) The different phone numbers must be entered in Contacts for them to appear in Call History.

Review: Windows Mobile Ecosystem Part II

The June 29th introduction of the iPhone by Apple caused tremendous attention to be placed on the overall Smartphone category. It was the hope of many companies, including Microsoft, that the iPhone would help to validate and accelerate adoption of this category of devices that offer far richer feature functionality than the standard cell phone device often given away or subsidized by the Mobile Operator.

It was also hoped that the iPhone would join the burgeoning ranks of other Smartphones, including 150 current Windows Mobile devices, which in turn would spur on innovation and put downward pressure on price as the major consumer electronic manufacturers of the world would now have to differentiate their offerings in the marketplace.

Article: Chasing the Tempest

Tornadoes are exceedingly rare manifestations of a thermodynamic symphony-remarkable winds born of large storms that themselves tower in size larger than Mount Everest and often wider than Rhode Island is long. Because the conditions that produce them are rare, most tornadoes last less than ten minutes. But in that short time they can cause untold devastation. Storm chasers are hobbyists who relish hunting this elusive and dangerous prey. They also offer a vital link to the science of "tornadogenesis" by helping to verify forecasts and warnings issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).

Jim Karpen's Hot Web Site of the Week: Microsoft Portal

Microsoft has launched a new Flash-based portal with some really fun demos of Windows Mobile. If you’re already a user, you likely won’t learn anything new. But do check it out in any case. The demos show the sorts of things you can do with your device, all the while with attractive video footage in the background.

The demos cover the Mobile Office applications, Mobile Outlook, and Mobile Live Search. This portal also shows images of the available devices, again against a background of video footage, and gives quick access to further information.
