News: SplashData Tosses SplashMoney into Windows Mobile Pond

In an article on pdastreet.com, the launch of finance application SplashMoney for Windows Mobile is discussed. The article said in part:

"SplashData launched a version of SplashMoney, its personal finance application, for the Windows Mobile platform this week. SplashMoney has, until now, been a Palm OS-only application.

The software allows users to record transactions, track account balances, generate reports and budgets, and manage finances form their smartphone. You can also assign icons to help you better identify different types of transactions, filter transactions, and perform bank account reconciliation."

The release of SplashMoney for Windows Mobile expands the financial usability of mobile devices that was previously only available to Palm OS users.

Tip: Save power while playing music: Turn off the screen

If you are listening to music on your device for a long period of time, you can save power by turning the screen off. This can be done by assigning a button to toggle the screen on and off in Windows Media Player. Follow these steps:

Media Player 10 Mobile (WM 6, WM 5, and some WM 2003 Second Edition devices)
  1. Open Media Player to the main screen and go to Menu >Options >Buttons.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select (highlight) the Toggle Screen option.
  3. Tap on the Assign button (non-touch screen smartphones: Select Menu >Assign).
  4. Press the button that you want to assign to the toggle screen function.
  5. Press OK when you are finished assigning Media Player functions to buttons.
Media Player 9 for Pocket PC (Some WM 2003 Second Edition and devices running earlier versions of the OS)
  1. Open Media Player to the main screen and go to Tools >Settings >Buttons.
  2. Select a Media Player function from the Select Function drop-down menu by tapping on it.
  3. Press the button you want to assign to the function.
  4. Tap OK.

Note: Media Player 10 Mobile allows you to assign its functions to the directional/navigation pad, but not the application launch buttons. (Media Player 9 for Pocket PC does allow you to do this.) Also, if your Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device has a QWERTY or numeric keypad, you can assign Media Player functions to those keys. Finally, if you assign a function to a button that already has another Media Player function assigned to it, it will lose its original assignment.

Review: The Samsung BlackJack II

The first generation Samsung BlackJack was one of the most popular Windows Mobile Smartphones on the market, and I was very interested to see how they would follow up on it. Now that the BlackJack II has been released by AT&T, let’s take a look and see if it was worth an upgrade.
