The game I played most this week: Plasma Duel
Brick Pong: Plasma Duel
Graphically, the game is right about where it should be: it doesn’t look great, but the colors are pretty good and everything (except the fonts, which look crappy) are about what you’d expect to see in an early 1980s videogame. The audio is at the same level, too: not great, not bad, and just about what you’d expect to find in this type of game. While pretty basic, the audiovisual components of the game do a nice job of evoking the bright, blinking atmosphere of those old machines. The game also has a couple of extra features. Keys can be remapped, and you can play the game against an in-person opponent by having one person use the d-pad and another use the stylus. I personally wouldn’t want to play the game this way (two heads peering at a small screen would get tiresome after a while, I would think), but the game is plenty of fun in single-player mode. The price is also right on track. Note: Nova Dawn, another game the company is working on, looks pretty cool.
Addendum My review of 3D Lawn Darts last week ended up receiving some feedback from a couple of people. I failed to mention in my review that the game has a really neat motion sensing feature (based on the circuitry contained in camera-enabled Pocket PCs and Smartphones) that allows you to swing and rotate your device to throw darts, sort of like a Nintendo Wii. Since my current device doesn’t have a phone, I wasn’t able to test the feature out. While I stand by my opinions on the game, the motion-sensing feature is worth knowing about if you’re thinking about trying out the game.News - PDAMill PDAMill is having a 50% off sale on all their titles. That’s pretty amazing… companies don’t usually have sales like that unless they’re going out of business. This huge sale includes their newer titles, as well, including the just-released The Corsair. Wouldn’t it be neat if, say, Handango had a similar sale? Not likely! Or how about your favorite hardware seller? Not likely, either. |
