Pushing pucks:
Shuffleboard Unlimited

Shuffleboard doesn't show up much on electronic gaming platforms, probably because it's considered the type of game played mostly by retirees on south seas cruises. It's the sort of game that's probably a lot more fun in person, since its mostly physical (albeit very simple). Really, it doesn't involve much more than pushing pucks down a flat surface so that they go far enough to gain a high score.

Shuffleboard Unlimited's interface is passable, but it needs some work. It works by tapping arrows to set the angle and weight, then tapping a moving strength bar at just the right moment to send the puck off. While this works OK, I'd greatly prefer something similar to Hexacto's old input method, where you'd just draw a line to indicate the strength and angle of the "throw." (For those of you who read this newsletter regularly, you know this is about the 500th time I've mentioned Hexacto's Precise Stylus Input method when referring to another company's game. I wonder if those guys--wherever they are now--realize just how innovative they were back in 2001-2002.)

Overall, Shuffleboard Unlimited is pretty well put together. While the in-game interface is not the greatest, the overall GUI is put together pretty well and the graphics are pretty solid. This game is best left to those who like simple, low-key games. If you like fireworks and explosions, you'll want to give it a pass.
