AdapTex for your Smartphone:
Type FASTER, Write MORE

AdapTex predictive software unlocks the capability of your Smartphone.  It dramatically speeds up text entry by suggesting relevant words and whole phrases, and allowing entry with a single touch.

AdapTex uses AdapTive Intelligence™ technology to suggest words that are relevant and contextually correct.  Instead of being based on statistics, AdapTex gives accurate predictions because it learns your vocabulary and adjusts to the context of your applications.  Independent usability tests have proven that AdapTex software reduces keystrokes by 60% and typing time by 35% from first use, and as it learns, these figures improve.

AdapTex is available for QWERTY and 12 key Smartphones on Windows Mobile 5.0/2003 platforms, for Pocket PCs, and also in different European languages.

"After using AdapTex for 3 weeks I realised it was alive, unlike your usual predictive software it adapts rather than predicts, which in my opinion is what it should be all about when it comes to the future of usability, it accurately adapts to your unique style of writing learning from you and visa versa, and this is just the beginning [.] Truly inspired." News:  Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center

Are you ready for the new Daylight Saving Time changes? According to Microsoft:

"Beginning in 2007, daylight saving time (DST) will be extended in the United States. DST will start on March 11, 2007, which is three weeks earlier than usual, and it will end on November 4, 2007, which is one week later than usual. This results in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than in previous years. Unless certain updates are applied to your computer, the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during this four-week period. In particular, you must make sure that both your Windows operating system and your calendar programs are updated."

Review: Mobile Medical Software Makes Life Easier For Healthcare Professionals and Their Patients

In a review in the Feb/Mar 2007 issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine author says in part;

"There's a rich and growing field of software solutions for medical professionals available for Windows Mobile. They range from reference texts to programs that can track patient records to software that can improve the practice of medicine. The number of resources is growing rapidly; we can't cover everything that's available, but I will highlight the programs that have impressed me. Also, see the sidebar in this article for yet more Web sites and software to check out in the Windows Mobile healthcare arena."

Tip #352:  Disable Error Reporting To Get Better Performance (WM5 only)

(Note: Error Reporting not available in HP iPAQs.)

Error Reporting is a program that automatically sends Microsoft an error report if the device experiences an error. Many users have reported that they get a huge performance increase and a more stable device if they turn off this feature.

Here’s how to do it: Go to Start >Settings >System tab >Error Reporting (Smartphones: select Start >Settings >Error Reporting). Select the “Disable error reporting” option (Smartphones: select Disable in the Error Reporting field).

Article:  Counting "Toothpicks" with Windows Mobile

In an article in the Feb/Mar 2007 issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine author discusses getting an accurate inventory of a forest plot has never been easier. He says in part;

"Imagine you've just dropped the world's biggest box of wooden toothpicks. Now your job is to count them all. This is a very big box; we're talking about millions of toothpicks. How would you count them? You could measure off a small section of them, count those, and then extrapolate the result to the entire group. This is a rough parallel to the way the forest industry works to estimate its inventory. Thanks to a forward-thinking partnership between forestry experts and technology developers (and Windows Mobile), the ability to get an efficient and accurate count on virtually any forest plot has markedly progressed in just the past few years."

Jim Karpen's Hot Web Site of the Week:  Free Mapping Software from Nokia

We’ve already covered four free mapping applications, and now there’s a fifth — smart2go from Nokia.

In many ways it’s similar to the free applications from Microsoft and Google. However, unlike those programs, it allows you to download the maps onto a storage card as well as access the maps via a data connection. Some users rave about it being superior to the other mapping apps, mentioning specifically the quality of the maps and GPS integration. One user noted that the application comes in at a whopping 20MB.

Not all of the features are free. If you want turn-by-turn directions with voice prompts, you’ll need to pay a fee. A discussion on Smartphone Thoughts offers user reviews of smart2go, plus comparisons with Google and Windows Live.
